ABOUT THIS COURSE

The Master of Research (MRes) course is an AQF Level 9 Masters (Research) qualification designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required for original research in a discipline taught at the postgraduate level by CIHE Australia. The MRes program strategically fosters advanced research competencies and specialized expertise, essential for addressing contemporary academic challenges and practical issues in the professional sphere. The course’s philosophy is built on a foundational blend of general research skills and in-depth, discipline-specific knowledge, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to initiate and execute original research.

To fulfill the requirements of this course, students must complete a total of 160 credit points, comprising 8 units. This includes 5 core units (totaling 60 credit points, with one unit valued at 20 credit points), 2 discipline-focused units (20 credit points), and a year-long research thesis (80 credit points) that will be assessed by an independent internal and external examiner. The discipline focus includes one unit on Contemporary Issues in the specified discipline and another on Thesis Topic Development in the chosen field.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To satisfy the general entrance requirements for admission to the MPA course, applicants must meet at least one of the following entry requirements:

DOMESTIC APPLICANTS
  • Successful completion of a undergraduate degree with at least an upper second honours year from an Australian university or HEI or equivalent from an overseas institution, from a discipline, cognate with the proposed MRes specialization. OR Completion of a cognate undergraduate degree plus a postgraduate credential with a GPA of no less than 5.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

International students must meet the conditions above.

  • In addition, international students or local applicants with international qualifications completed in a language other than English must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be shown through an Academic IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall, with a minimum writing score of 6.0; a TOEFL score of 550-583 (paper-based) with a TWE of 4.5, or 79-93 (internet-based) with a minimum writing score of 21; a Pearson PTE Academic score of 58-64 with a writing score of at least 50; an AE5 Pass; or a C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency score of 176-184 with a minimum writing score of 169.

CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING

MODES OF STUDY ASSESSMENT

At CIHE Australia we provide workshop-based engaged learning. All our units involve participation in 3 hours of on-campus workshop per week for 12 weeks. Each week’s workshop will require preparation – reading, activities and online work.

All our units are supported by an online learning management system – Moodle.

We use a range of assessment tasks at CIHE to help you monitor your learning – quizzes, group work, case-studies and scenario-based activities, reports and exams.

Our assessment tasks are designed to be work-oriented, that is, they are designed to mimic the real world processes involved in business so that you will be ready to start your career as an active independent professional.
