”I was very pleased to be invited and to accept the invitation to be the Chair of Crown Institute of Higher Education’s first Board of Directors. I retired from the University of Adelaide where I served in a number of governance, senior management and executive positions including the inaugural Head of The School of Social Sciences, Director of Research and Associate Dean of Education in the Faculty of Arts, and Deputy Convener of the University’s Academic Board. I also maintained an academic career of teaching and research, winning University prizes for excellent in teaching and for the Departmental Learning and Teaching Plans, supervising postgraduate students (which I continue to do) and publishing three books and numerous articles on issues of locality and identity in South Asia and the European Union. I have held visiting professorships at The University of Hull in the UK and Concordia University in Montreal and served two terms as the President of the professional organisation of anthropologists in Australia. Having retired from the University of Adelaide, being a member of Crown Institute of Higher Education’s Board of directors provides a rewarding opportunity for me to use my knowledge of and experience in the higher education governance and delivery to build, maintain and continually improve the quality of the education we provide most importantly for the success of our students in their studies and future careers.”
